Fiskars ironworks village was established in 1649, marking the beginning of the Fiskars brand’s history. In the 19th century, the ironworks shifted from basic iron production to iron processing under the leadership of Johan Jacob Julin (later von Julin), and the area saw the construction of, among other things, a Fine Forge (now The Torby hotel) and a Copper Forge, where knives, scissors, and cutlery were produced. In 1883, Fiskars became a limited company, which today employs about 6,000 people in 30 countries. Fiskars Group’s brands include, in addition to Fiskars, Iittala, Arabia, Gerber, Royal Copenhagen, Waterford, George Jensen, and Wedgwood. Fiskars is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki.
The iconic orange-handled scissors were created in 1967 at the ironworks.
